A Plot Most Foul

If you have a big heart and a weak head, it's easy to get mixed up in a mess like the one in this story. This is the tale of how the Boss had her first adventure ever, and how she hooked up with the cast of clowns she hangs with nowadays. If she seems particularly dopey in this story, well, remember that this was before she had me around to tell her what to do.

It started one day under Dirt City, when the Boss heard a cry for help in the Dock Sewer. She sprinted to answer the call, and so did a bunch of other folk nearby. Strangely enough, all these people ended up working together to "help out," and they decided to live together and band together. All of them were novice adventurers, none had strong ties to family or House. Some people would call it "fate," or "kismet," or "destiny." Well, I call those people "wooly-headed cloud dreamers"! All I can say is that it was luck -- dumb luck -- and given the so-called intellects of the people involved, the word "dumb" takes on extra layers of meaning in this context!

Anyways, it was a boy crying for help that day, and the mob ended up rescuing the boy's brother from drowning. Turns out the boys had overheard plotters discussing a murder, and the plotters tried to kill the boys. The boys' father turned out to be a staff member of the House of Keys, named Jeraldh. He was grateful and offered the group an apartment in which to live.

Back home, the boys revealed that the plot was to kill Sarla, daughter of the Alpha Wolf. The group decided to get evidence of the plot and then go to the House of Wolves.

The Boss could have just said "Good-bye" and left it at that. But no! She and her new pals just had to go assassin hunting! Idiots! Once again, only dumb luck saved them.

They were looking for a half-orc, named Ba'Bac, and a cloaked person with a limp. Lucky, they found the half-orc with a few henchmen at the Blue Eel Tavern, topside. After a fight, and lucky again, the adventurers captured Ba'Bac -- but he took poison and killed himself rather than be questioned. The half-orc had a note linking him to servants of Marteaus! And detailing his payment for killing Sarla.

Here's the marking on Ba'Bac's note. It means "Servant, Marteaus, and Dominate." Bleh! That thing gives me the willies!

Evidence in hand, the group went to the House of Wolves to warn them of the plot. That took some moxie! But the Boss has moxie in spades. Anyway, after some tense moments, the Wolves bought the story and said thanks. So it all ended well, with the Wolves saying, amazingly enough, "You hold the Wolves in debt." Wowsy, as the Boss would say. The End.
