Golems
created by Steve Martin
Golems are magically created monsters, given life by spells or tomes. Actually, just a resemblance of life. No true golem has any intelligence, just a drive to do what its master has commanded. For this reason, golems are only affected by attacks from magical weapons or from creatures with as many or more hit dice. No creator may have more than half his level in functioning golems at any time, and all but a HD amount equal to his level must be restricted to guard duty.
BRONZE GOLEM |

FREQUENCY: |
Very Rare |
Although smaller than the major golem types, bronze golems are nevertheless to be feared. Bronze golems are man-sized and usually man-shaped creatures, although they are sometimes sculpted to resemble animals instead. They may be constructed by means of a magical tome, or by a sufficiently high-level magic-user employing the proper spells. The cost in materials is 1000 gp per hit point, and it requires 2 months construction time. Once created, the stone golem can be controlled by its creator, and it will understand and obey simple commands. It may also stand as a guard until some event takes place to trigger its actions. Although its movement rate is no greater than that of a stone or iron golem, this smaller golem is faster than either of those others, and gains 3 attacks every 2 rounds. These attacks will be with whatever weapon the golem is portrayed with if is it man-shaped, or with the primary attack of whatever animal it may depict. Regardless of its form, it has the to hit probabilities of an 11 hit dice monster. In addition to its normal attack, a bronze golem may cause fear in one creature every other round, provided that the creature is within 60', looking in the golem's direction, and capable of seeing the golem. A successful saving throw negates this effect. Creatures affected by the fear are 90% likely to drop anything they are holding, and will run away at their fastest normal movement rate (ie: no stopping to cast spells or use magic abilities, but able to fly or swim) for one turn. Bronze golems are unaffected by most forms of magic. Those which do affect them are magical fires, mending, minor creation, major creation, and grease.
A bronze golem is damaged only by +2 or better magical weapons. Blunt magical weapons less than +2 in value will mark it and appear to cause damage, but actually do it no harm. |

LIVING STATUE |
||
FREQUENCY: |
Very Rare |
Living statues are animated (usually marble) statues. They are mindless magical creations, and therefore immune to mind-affecting spells. They are also immune to damage from fire and cold, and shrug off 5 points of damage from every physical attack made against them. Living statues may attack once a round, doing 2d4 damage no matter what weapon they appear to be attacking with. They usually look like warriors, but may be in the shape of animals or famous (non-warrior) people. |
