The Mountain People form a remnant of a once-great nation. The people and culture is somewhat Mayan in flavor, with Oriental infusions. Their attitudes towards war and pacifistic restraint, ownership and contracts, ancestors and one's inner spiritual life, are all very different from the traditional D&D fantasy model. The Empire of the Mountain People was once huge with temples, roads, monuments, and so forth, but they seem to have simply decided that such things really do not matter very much after all, and so the works of the Mountain People have been allowed to fall into disrepair. The Eternals have not heard a good explanation for this spiritual lethargy.
The Mountain People are devout followers of the Cam gods.
Pure-stock Mountain People are oddly like the Avaloners, tall, light skinned, with aquiline noses -- eye colors tend to differ greatly from Avalonish blue and brown, however. Mountain people seem somewhat detached and unreliable and are quite passive. Unfortunately for them this has resulted in little to no resistance (so far) as Avaloners pillage their ancient holy places.
The Mountain People, of course, are unhappy that their ancient treasures have being taken by Avaloners -- especially since stolen artifacts are part of their gods' worship system. On the other hand, Avalonish adventurers have been killing off monsters and foul beasts, which has helped the Mountain People.
Some goods are available in Mountain People villages at high prices. Trade with the Mountain People is possible, though problematic. Their attitudes about ownership and contracts are not familiar to Eternals or Avaloners.
