The Quest of the Druidic Oracle

The Search for the Spirit of Nature Reborn.

Omens and Messengers

At Shoal, Tim gets a message from the new ruler at Albany inviting trade and good relations. Soon after, a refugee from Albany, serving as a messenger from the Druids, comes looking for Abrac and other Eternals. He says his name is Kazz. Meanwhile, aboard ship, Abrac has a disturbing vision that suggests something is wrong with Nature.

The Druids Speak

The Eternals (save Kelekolio, who is on a holy quest of his own) gather in Shoal. They talk with Kazz; then Abrac, Marvin, and Nomad travel with him north to meet the Great Druid. This venerable druid tells the Eternals that the Druidic Oracle (a singular person who represents the Spirit of Nature Incarnate) was slain by the new rulers of Albany. He asks for help in two ways: recovering the Oracular Regalia that the Albanians took and finding new candidates for the job of Oracle. The Party agrees.

Showdown in Albany

Spying on Albany revealed many changes since the last time the Eternals had passed through. The fort and village had been conquered by a troop of strange humans who had mental powers and spoke an unknown language. They had unknown watchbeasts and gigantic hawks that two humans rode at a time. They had erected new stone buildings and were indoctrinating the locals with some kind of brainwashing. And they had burned the jungle all around to clear the land.

Spying quickly led to a raid attempt in an effort to recover the lost Oracular Regalia. The raiding Eternals did penetrate the Albanian defenses with some battle, but Kazz was captured. This led to extended difficult negotiations which eventually yielded the Regalia and Kazz for a large ransom.

Visions and a Trial by Combat

After retrieving the Regalia for the Druids, the Eternals then began to search for candidates. Unusual variations of divinations spells gave clues in visions and poetry as to the location of the candidates. One hint suggested a teleport to a land of knights, chivalry, and castles almost ten thousands of miles to the south. Once there, the candidate proved to be a prisoner in a castle cell ruled by a local Duke. Marvin hoped to free the candidate with a trial by combat, but he was defeated by the Duke himself. Stymied, the Eternals abandoned this avenue.

Spice Isles

Another hint suggested a trip to the Spice Isles, located northeast some four thousand miles away. A very long ride on the Flying Carpet brought them there in just over a month. Just as the Eternals found the Vanilla Isle, an earthquake rocked the island and opened the earth, revealing a huge cavern. Disgorged from the earth were both the candidate and a Drow following him. The Eternals handily destroyed the Drow and saved the candidate.

The Reluctant Necromancer

Continuing their search, another naturally divine hint led the Eternals to the shore, and a huge whale. It swallowed them alive and brought them to a rocky lifeless island, inhabited only by undead. Exploring the lighthouse on the island, the party discovered more undead and a human necromancer, who at first seemed to be holding the candidate. But it soon became clear that the necromancer was the candidate. After battle and turmoil, with confusion and fear, the Eternals retreated, deeming the necromancer a likely poor candidate in any event.

With one candidate in hand, the party returned to the Druids and declared their Quest a success.
