Notes on Religion

This religion is a Greek-based system of worship that originated upon the planet of Teth.  The current religious cycle is very near its end.  Tyche is a lesser goddess of luck.  Tyche's symbols are: blue sphere, red pentagram, blue tunic, bluebird, spilt wine.

Around Day 600, Darla travelled to New Avalon with Abrac and established a congregation there devoted to Tyche. See Darla's Plans.

History

(old notes dating from just before the trip from Teth to Lothar.)

On one of Abrac's trips, in the Top, to the Main Greek island he picked up supplies for the great journey. Here (by Luck? by Fate? by Tyche?) he met Darla.

Everyone knows (none better than the clerics of Demeter) the occupation of "cleric" to one of the Gods of Man, is an uncertain thing especially in these times.

Darla had a long, secret and difficult to arrange talk with this special Druid about the end of the world. At first she did not believe his words, but after Abrac showed proof (under a Detect Lie spell) and after consulting with Tyche (and getting no response), Darla began to suspect that things were not right. She decided to inform her superiors of her actions (not revealing too much detail). Informing her superiors at the Temple was a mistake because they immediately denounced the whole plan as wild, ludicrous and especially sacrilegious. They would not permit her to destroy the unity of The 18 (17 remaining Vestal Virgins), the one faithful and convincing vein that runs true through all Greek religions (regardless of alignment). A missing, fleeing, Virgin would just exacerbate the present crisis. Darla was locked away and heavily guarded. She became convinced things were not as she had been told by her elders.

A few days later Abrac, using the recently discovered Top, simply rescued her.

She decided to do what she thought best for everyone. The decision was not based on her personal safety (for this strange journey was fraught with many dangers) but rather for her own deity. She decided to accompany this Druid on his quest for another World. To journey through the Great Void. Perhaps on this new world the Druid wished to journey to she and her Goddess could exist in Truth.

Until lift-off, she wears a veil to hide her very famous (and beautiful) face.

She is unsure of this journey, but "Fortune Favors the Brave" a motto of her religion, "Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained". This way she may die quick and intact, where in one prophesied future of the Greek lands, the destruction and break-down of society might not grant her that one favor.

Exactly why Abrac approached her to be on this trip is not known.

Abrac fears this trip, he is not totally sure. He worries constantly (but not in front of the party).

Who can be sure of the unknown. (??!??.........)

How Darla feels about the rest of the party: She does not know them well, only their names and professions, she has tried to avoid them all during the preparations. She assumes that they are typical males. How they react to her may also be typical. She will sleep with her mace and say extra prayers. This is not the Vestal Temple, no company of eunuch guards here.
