Notable and Remarkable
God stops by - On day 460 a very interesting thing happens. At evening, after sundown prayers, Lord Joseph Gregory Greensleeves Whorfin was in the temple area alone, preforming the rituals though no other person is present. He heard a noise behind him, turned and saw nothing, and stepped off the main podium to get closer to the source of the sound.
Whorfin turned back to the dais and saw the translucent image of his god standing on the dais. He realized that this was the real thing and prostrated himself accordingly. The god motioned him to rise and said the following:
"What you do here is good. It is about time." He smiles.
"Back in the Elf Nation across the ocean there is great corruption. My temples have been abandoned, attacked, and forgotten. My people have been corrupted, polluted and absorbed by the "great" ones of this world. To the south, in the Elf colony, there is yet hope. Among those are still believers -- however even these have been tainted."
"When you are ready, travel to the South and teach them the proper ways of my glory. They have strayed but they may be my last chance on Lothar. Help retune my power."
Lightning cracked through the night sky. The sound appeared to be outside the temple, behind Whorfin. Instinctively he looked over his shoulder. Through the narrow windows he noticed a cloudless night. When he turned back the image of his god was no longer there.
But he heard a disembodied voice speak once more.
"Oh yes, remember -- [Whorfin saw the image of himself requesting massive amounts of spells to hock]. I understand why you do it and what you intend, however you must still conserve my/our energies. Nothing is free. Spells of faith [1st and 2nd] are fine to exploit/dispense, but those of greater power should be used sparingly. Thanks."
John Aiwendil Kelekolio Whorfin looked down at the dais, and where the god had stood, glowing sunken footprints were etched into the stone. They glowed. They continued to glow for days. And after a week, Whorfin figured out that if one touches the footprints and prays for 2 rounds, the person receives an "Old-fashioned Bless" spell. At the end of the week the footprints still glow and still function.
Later, it turns out that anything with a Good alignment gets the Trad Bless, those of Neutrality receive Nothing, those of evil nature, including worshippers of the One Pale God, (if you actually bring them in your temple) receive a Trad Damn (but think that they really got a Trad Bless). Marvin, for example, was not blessed or damned. Those with leanings/connections to any Old Empire Faith get the Trad Damn, regardless of alignment. Animals and things with True Neutrality bent can recieve the Trad Bless.
As it turns out a "Traditional Bless" is like a time-delay standard Bless. It remains inactive until the first round of a melee. Then it kicks in with the effects of a standard Bless for six rounds. Then it is gone.
