"Protection" Deal (day 420 to 470)
GM: You recieve a visit from a "businessman" who would like to sell you and your building extra "protection". This would cost you 50 gps/month. Are you interested? Think about it and he walks away with a smile.
Although some might see this as a problem, I see it as an opportunity. If I could get this "businessman" and his company to provide REAL protection, it would be well worth the 50 gp per month. Here is the outline of my plan: Get an interview with the head businessman. Discuss the details of the contract, basically I agree to pay 50 gp per month, and he agrees to provide protection. I then "bless" the proceedings with a quest spell that locks him into the bargain.
GM: You can get an interview with this guy's boss but NOT his boss's boss (no way).
Of course, I would have to be prepped for the interview, just as you plan for the interview with the dude at the tavern. We can work out the details.
GM: If you think that is necessary.
I'll make a second Continual Light fob like I did for the Guildmaster of the Adventurers' Guild, worth 100 gp as a gem plus the magic of the light.
Marvin and I will go to this meeting. Although I expect no trouble, we will be wary. For example, my staff will fly one foot behind me at all times to warn of back attack.
I'll pray for four commands, two slow poison (cast ahead of time on us both), two hold persons, one pro fire (cast ahead of time), one cure serious, two dispel magics, pro evil 10' (cast ahead of time), free action (cast ahead of time), cure crit, and two quests.
We'll have this meeting. I will be friendly and cordial. I'll give the Continual Light gem fob to the guy's boss. I'll get right to business. I just want to confirm our deal. I will pay 50 gp per month. They will provide protection for the Eternal House and its inhabitants. I assume they will agree. I will then pray to bless the agreement. As I pray, I will cast Quest (two castings) on the two highest ranking people. Their quest is to protect the Eternal House and its inhabitants for one year, then after one year to meet with me and describe to me the ways they accomplished this goal. Presumably they will agree and so get no saving throws. Then I'll pay the protection fee up front -- 600 gp. Then thank you and good day.
GM (paraphrase of verbal results): You catch them with their pants down and this works on what you think are a couple lower-level, lower-status types.
