Evil Player Characters in Kalerre

I really want to encourage interested potential Kingdoms and Honor players to ask for details, to challenge convention, to experiment, because that's the kind of involvement I hope to inspire in K&H. But I am reluctant to allow experimentation in the form of evil characters. Let me explain my vision for the game.

Because K&H is based on writing, and because players have the time to do a good job, I really want the game to revolve around story-telling. That is, the adventures of the game become the story of your character.

Don't be daunted by the idea of "story-telling" -- role-play gamers do it all the time! A traditional "dungeon crawl" is the story of how adventurers fight monsters and become more powerful (so they can fight bigger monsters). Other traditional RPG stories include rescuing a princess, saving a village from bandits, exploring the wilderlands, etc. I want to do the same thing with K&H, but I hope to create more interesting stories.

The problem I have with characters who play "bad guys" is that I fear the story possibilities will be limited or distasteful. I'm not interested in the story of how the cannibal chief's son learned Dark Magic through blood sacrifice and torture, used it to kill his father, and became the chief himself. I'm not interested in the story of the raiding party that ambushed peaceful farmers, raped them, and torched their homes.

There might be interesting stories to tell about evil characters, stories of redemption, or of rejecting an evil heritage, or of finding honor in a corrupt society, but I did not intend to offer these as an option for the playtest.

But if you can offer me some interesting story ideas for playing an evil character, such as a Dark Mage or a cannibal of the great northern swamp, I would consider it. I want to include players who are enthusiastic, excited, creative, and devoted to frequent posting. If that describes you, I'll bend over backwards to find a way to accomodate your interest!

Alternately, you might find yourself better suited to play in Kormyn, another K&H land, run by Creator Anna. You can look for details about Kormyn at the Official K&H Site. Click on Lands and then on Kormyn.
