. West Wing
. The Commons

At the end of the Western Hallway is a large, domed room built much as the Heart Chamber is, except that there are large windows that circle the room from its southern-most point around to its northern-most point, looking west. There is another spectacular view of Bridge Island from here.

The room has tables and comfortable chairs; some chairs are made in the human fashion to seat minotaurs, and others are the chaise-like devices that can be used by wemics and centaurs. When the tables are pushed to the center of the room, it looks like a banquet hall or a meeting room. When the tables and chairs are scattered throughout, the room becomes a restful place to sit and look at the view, or to gather to talk with friends. The floor is mostly covered in rushes, mats, furs and rugs (depending on time of year), so it is pleasant to walk or sit on. A few bright tapestries cover the walls. Large fireplaces warm the room on chilly days.

The windows here, as throughout the Keep, are glass set in iron panes; a beautifully wrought grillwork of iron leaves and vines prevents anyone from climbing in or out. Streaming sunlight makes this a good place for chores like weaving and sewing.

Everone comes to the Commons for meals; at other times people use this space to visit, talk, and relax.

There is a door south of the entryway from the Western Hallway, which leads to the kitchen.

. The Kitchen

The very spacious kitchen area looks more than capable of feeding a hundred people if need be. There's a large island counter and preparation station in the middle of the room that can easily have a half-dozen Centaur-sized cooks working at it. There are cupboards and drawers built into it, while pots & pans dangle from a metal rack over the island.

There are three large areas along the north wall of the room that have to do with the cooking itself: first is a long iron range with four separate oven compartments in it! Next to that is a huge fireplace with space to hang stewing cauldrons over the fire that may built there. Finally there is another large fireplace set up with a roasting spit. Near each of these cooking stations hang rows of various forks, tongs, skewers, paddles and ladles used in cooking.

Along the south wall, which has windows that look out over the Safety Channel, there's the section of the kitchen where workers wash the dishes and pots and pans used in the preparation of meals. The windows here are glass and iron, as in the Commons.

Along the east wall are three doorways. The open doorway in the northeast corner leads to wood storage area. The middle door, made of stone, leads to a very, very cold room that has greens and vegetables stored on one side and meats on the other side. The door in the southeast corner leads to the western barracks.

Along the west wall are three doorways: the northernmost open doorway leads to the Commons. The middle door, made of wood, leads to the wine cellar and the pantry. The southern door, also of wood, leads to staff quarters.

.

Pantry and Staff Quarters

From the kitchen, the middle door on the west leads to a short corridor. Shelves on the north wall of the corridor hold commonly needed foodstuffs. Through a locked door on the south is the wine cellar. And through a door at the western end of the corridor is the pantry itself, where all manner of supplies, dry goods, and the like are stored.

The southwestern door from the kitchen leads to corridors and to smaller personal rooms for individual staff members. Two of these small rooms serves as staff washrooms. The inner corridor of this area boasts windows that bring fresh air to the quarters.
