Day 608 - Packing My Bags
I'll shave my head bald with my +2 dagger. Then I'll borrow a page from the Abrac Adabra book of security -- stone shape out a hollow, deposit items within, then smooth it back over. In the hollow I will put EVERY possession I have EXCEPT:
My reasoning in all this is to be able to enter the Elf Lands in disguise. Anyone who has heard of me will expect a solitary cleric in Elfin Chain who talks a lot. When they see a bald half-elf in no armor with a staff and dagger and a wolf familiar, they will think I am a mage or druid. The fact that I will not talk, that I am bald, and that I am accompanied by a Centaur will help the disguise.
Day 614 - Preparing to Depart
The Words of the Great God of All Elves are ''Elu Tintollo -- and be silent!'' Elu Tintollo is a name. It is the name given to me by my God. Who am I to refuse a new name? So as I continue in my journey, I call myself by the name God has given me. I am Elu Tintollo.
It may be that God intended me to find a person who is named Elu Tintollo. If so, my use of the name may well draw him or her to me.
The Great God of the Elves also told me, "be silent!" So I shall journey mute of voice, unless, in whispered tones, I need to cast a spell. But if I am silent, how will I communicate? Before I enter the Elflands, I spend a night writing a large number of notes, so that I will be able to offer silent words to those I encounter. When I need to speak, I will hand someone a note. Those notes, prepared ahead of time, can be found here.
Before we depart. I talk to Koob. "Manwe Sulimo, the Great God of the Elves, has himself directed me to enter this land and heal the spirit of Faerie here. He has given me a name -- Elu Tintollo. I am using that name, and it may also be that we will find another who uses it as well."
"The Great Lord," I continue, "has told me to be silent. But he has not said the same to you or Friendly. Still, I would be grateful if you spoke little, if at all. When you speak with me, whisper in my ear."
"Finally," I conclude, "I ask that you accompany me as a symbol and representative of the Spirit my elvish kin are in danger of losing. I ask you to come as my friend. What you do as we proceed is up to you, but I hope you will stay close and help in whatever way you see fit."
I will also talk to Friendly. I use Speak with Animals to tell him that we are going to the land of elves. He must stay close to me and protect me. Attack only people I tell him to (we go over the command "attack.") And most of all, be quiet. No barking or howling. Sshhh!
I cast the Create Food and Anim Summon every morning. That gives us something to eat and drink. And it keeps Friendly friendly. Then we walk into the Land of the Elves, heading for Yallambi, looking for people of whom we can ask directions.
I grant Koob a Cure Light Wounds spell and ask him to carry my Lucky Mended Iron Arrow of Death and Direction, asking him to hold it for me until I ask for it back.
Day 619-624 - Walking to Yallambi
Wandering with Koob and Friendly, we soon encounter an elf patrol. Communicating by note, I ask directions, and they point us toward a village. Upon arrival, we are directed to the local priest's house. There we find the village clergy and Elu Tintollo himself! At first taken as a mental defective, I soon compel Elu to help me with the aid of a Quest spell. He is troubled in mind with the tidings I bring, but he agrees to help me in any way possible. Together, we four set out for Yallambi.
Day 625-626 - Cleansing the Temple
I meet Elu in Yallambi, and he brings me to the Temple. There is a huge circular nave, into which light streams from an open skylight. A giant holy symbol was mounted to a 20 ft high pillar on the main altar. I investigated the pillar, and discovered it to be an illusion. I dispelled the illusion, revealing a narrower, 10 ft high pillar that had been hidden by the illusion. This pillar was covered in hideous symbols of a foreign god. I detected a tendril of magic connecting this unholy pillar to the symbol. I deduced that the worship of the people was being stolen and channelled into this unholy pillar.
The best dispel roll of my life (01) destroyed the Pale God's tendril. The symbol came crashing down. Elu was, to say the least, startled by these events. The unholy pillar resisted attempts to damage it. Elu's superior (not the evil High Priest) entered, demanding an explanation. He and Elu went off, leaving me under guard. I incapacitated the guard, and escaped through the skylight as the city guard arrived.
The next day, I snuck back into the Temple (taking some glyph damage) and went over to the unholy pillar. I cast a Sanctuary, and then I Sacrificed the thing to my God. During the Sacrifice, some minor demon appeared, but my Sanctuary kept it at bay. After the Sacrifice, the pillar vanished. And I noticed someone else in the Temple with me. I could have been looking at my twin brother, but it was in fact the Evil High Priest! He Flamestuck me, and I saw that just as I was burned, he was burned as well.
In fact, it became very clear that he was some kind of Anti-Eternal, and that his injuries would be mine. But since I was already injured, and at a disadvantage, I beat a hasty retreat through the skylight again.
Day 627-628 - The Final Triumph
Early the next day I cast Commune, and God said that this Anti-Me had to die, even if it cost me my own life. So I cast a Slay the Living Glyph of Warding on a small box. I met with Koob and Elu, and told Koob I would meet him again -- until then, he was to hold on to my Lucky Arrow.
The next day I snuck into the town. I defeated two assailants who had been laying in wait -- but took some damage doing it. I created a diversion with a pack of dogs led by my staff. I Stone Shaped through the Temple wall.
Within I saw the Anti-Me standing in some kind of circle of power. Four henchmen were assisting him -- but one was Elu. One fighter attacked me. Elu cast Hold Person on the other underlings. I used my magic dagger to cut my cheek. My Evil Twin was cut too. Then I opened the box with the Glyph of Slay Living, choosing not to resist the magic. So both of us died, and the Elflands were saved.
The End.
